That's Ukranian Village. Not great, not bad... about on the better side of average. The "better" part of UV is up by Division.

You'll be fine over there, and very close to a grocery store if you don't have a car (which is always nice). Drover is right that up a two-three blocks by Division is nicer, but the differences, especially now (as opposed to about ten years ago) are minimal.

The neighborhood is safe (of course, just like every city neighborhood, you don't want to walk around by yourself, drunk, at 2am with your Ipod on, so use some common sense) and there is plenty to do in the neighborhood if you like restaurants, bars, and live music. Personally, I wish we had a movie theater over here, but you can't have everything I suppose.

The upside of the neighborhood is that you can walk to Wicker Park, but don't have to, you know, actually live in Wicker Park

It's one of those areas that people move to who want to be close to the Wicker Park/Bucktown action, but who also want a price break. But if your choices are Ukranian Village, Logan Square, and Humboldt Park, I'd definitely say Ukranian Village is the safest of those three. You still have to be careful there, however. Strange incidents like car arsons are a little too familiar there, for some reason (a friend of mine had three on her block in a year). It's a mostly gentrified area, but it's just a bit close to some rougher parts of the city.

Well, reviving a long dormant thread is also a faux pas (thread necro), so you really can't win. This is a very specific location she is asking about. I don't think any of the other threads would be this specific.

^ I think it is perfectly acceptable if the question has been asked many times. ^

Don't worry, that is a good area to live in. One of my favorite areas of the city actually. The only problem is that it doeas not have an "L" stop that is reasonably close by.

Actually the L isn't all that far. It is a long walk, but a short ride on the #66 Chicago Ave bus. I really love that area. Great restaurants, shopping, and nice housing stock. Also, Kasia's Deli!!!!
