I am looking at an apartment at N. Sheridan and Foster. I am from NC and have no idea how the neighborhood is. Is it safe for two 25 year old girls to live???

Yes, it 's perfectly fine.

But surely you're not leasing the apartment sight unseen. Walk around the block and see how you feel.

5050 N Sheridan is right on the edge of a touch-and-go area. You won't want to wander around that area late at night, and you would need to be especially cautious wandering south. Directly north is decidedly better than directly south. There's some good eatin' around there and some interesting grocery shopping too since it's on the edge of a Vietnamese neighborhood.

My old hood. Used to be very rough around the edges back in the 90's. I should get out and see the area sometime. Maybe when it gets warmer. I miss wandering through the shops on Argyle. Also, walking to the lake was nice in the warmer months.

I couple years back I used to know a young pretty 20 something from the burbs who lived in this building or the one just south. She really like the area. It's a pretty mixed area or was. Just realize that it's not Lincoln Park.

I moved away from that neighborhood 4 years ago because of all the drunks, dope addicts, thieves, beggars, gang bangers and crazy people running around.

Agreed. It is borderline sketchy. Some gang presence, not a gang problem as in other parts of the city, but you may see it on some days. Not necessarily unsafe, but not completely desirable.
