For the love of god, don't put your coffee shop near a college and then close it every night at 8 pm. I'm looking at you, Metropolis.

I prefer Bull and Bear for that.

I've been resisting saying but, I've known one groups of friends and another group of acquaintances that have opened coffee shops in Chicago. Both failed. Maybe it was the location, hours, etc etc etc, but they failed. This is not uncommon from what I hear.

I never watched Friends but I think it inspired a lot of people. Everyone wants to have a little coffee shop. Maybe you are a business genius who's smart enough to pull it off but the reality is that it probably will not work. You might be better off opening a laundromat but that's not nearly as sexy.

Agreed. When I was in school there was always at least one super-late night coffee shop, I miss that a lot. Any place which allows young people to gather that isn't just another overpriced bar is a good thing.

You have to sell an AWFUL lot of coffee to be successful in that business - just add up what you'd need to sell in a day just to cover your rent, utilities, staff, etc.
