From southside Chicago to Green Bay? That's not too shabby. Isn't it about a 5 hour drive on a good day?

BTW, iIs your construction a result of the stimulus funding? We have plenty of that here - as well as several $3,000.00 "Putting America to Work" road signs.

The odds of traffic remaining pretty solidly crappy on 90/94 basically all morning are HIGH.

Traffic patterns shift a bit, and the express lanes get closed / reversed but it is not like "seas part" or anything dramatic...

I used to drive north on the Edens and Kennedy quite a bit in the late morning for meetings in the northern suburbs, and traffic was still awful much of the time. If you want clear highways in Chicago, go through at 3:00 a.m.

A little of both. The construction on 294 started last year, but the construction on the bishop ford started this year. With 294 it looks like the highway is being upgraded more than it is being repaired. With 94 it looks like some repairs that have been put off are being done.

The reason for this is the fact that the Kennedy is just a little too small for the traffic it handles. The Dan Ryan has 3-4 dedicated express lanes and 2-3 local lanes in each direction. The Kennedy 3-4 local lanes and 2 reversible express lanes. The Dan Ryan does not have left lane entrance ramps. The Kennedy has a couple of them. It simply does not take much to foul up the Kennedy.

If you can't go through early Sunday morning, then go through at 3 am the rest of the week. It is the least of the evil traffic.

Traffic should still be better after 9 then before 9, even if there are still some delays. Currently, it is 9:35, and the outbound time from downtown to Lake-Cook on the Edens is 33 minutes, 8 on the Kennedy, 25 on the Edens (according to GCM travel).

Bishop Ford construction is stimulus related, the Tri-State construction is not, it is under the umbrella of the Illinois Tollway system

I'm glad I found this thread before I made a new topic.

I was thinking about transferring to a position in Racine,WI and commuting from Chicago on workdays. Question: I would be working 3rd shift,so how is traffic on the Kennedy and Edens expressway from 8pm to 10pm?

Traffic might be moving close to the speed limit at that point, but even then it will be over an hour to Racine. It could be next to impossible in a heavy snow. A better option will be to enjoy living in an urban environment in Milwaukee, and commuting to Racine from there.
