Current Med Student will be in rotations in Jackson Park Hospital. I hear many people stay in Hyde Park and commute to Jackson Park. I am looking for decent place to live that is affordable. Any suggestions? I am planning to use public transporation. Is Public Transportation safe to Jackson Park Hospital?

Stony Island around Jackson Park Hospital is wide-open and bright all through the night. There's good transportation; the #28, 28X or 15 all stop at the door of the place and are gonna drop a person safely in Hyde Park in only a few minutes. Check the CTA schedules. The more active folks can walk to the Metra station at 71st street, about four blocks from the hospital, for a ride to Hyde Park or downtown.

Stony Island!!!
Beware!!! medical students of this area. Is is the worst area of chicago, believe me. If you're going to stay for a few months while doing rotations, the best thing is safety. From gangs, to thieves, to vadalism. Everyday there is crime along whole stony island. check it out here:

It can happen any hour of day, so its best to drive, instead of taking bus. Your best bet is hyde park, or west suburbs .

I think that taking the bus to the hospital is safe. I certainly have taken the bus to the area. As a matter of fact, I drove there yesterday.
