I can't think of any other city in the world that has an urban strecth as large as South loop to Wrigleyville, AS WELL AS such huge suburban swaths like South Deering and Calumet Heights, all within the city limits. I mean, areas like the loop and River North are some of the most urban in the country, and areas like E. 95th Street around S. Stony Island might as well be in a distant suburb of Houston.

Only in the city of neighborhoods. As much as people like to bash Chicago, I still love it for its diverse areas. I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT RACE. I'm talking about architectural styles, neighborhod planning. Most of the south side does feel like a inner ring suburb, very convenient to the city center.

I love Chicago, and although I do plan to leave eventually, no place will be like home.

Despite the southside may be the least dense of the city, its still more urban than Houston.

Have you ever heard of a city that stretches 30 plus miles from the bronx to coney island? How about huge swarths of suburbs in long island?

How about a city in china that stretches some 60 plus miles from pudong to puxi? and over 20 million ppl reside there with a population density of 7000/sq mile?

I think the OP was referring to both urban-like and suburban-like stretches within the city limits. His claim is based on the idea that cities like Houston and Los Angeles are mainly "suburban", and cities like New York and Hong Kong are mostly "urban". However, I would seriously doubt that there are no cities in Europe that offer such a mix. Population density data would be needed to actually investiage the validity of this claim.

I think Chicago has a large swath of single family homes which I have not seen in other major cities.

Yes, Chicago does have a bunch of single family homes.

It also has those 2-4 story flat apartments.

Then it ahs the new condos

And those cool Polish facade buildings like the ones in Pilsen

The greystone ones that look like castles

yupp...
