Mr. Beef, no telling what sort of things you can do on those length of the room picnic benches...

I prefer portillos - if chocolate cake doesn't scream romance, I don't know what does!

If you are ever in Springfield in the evening, go to Maldaner's. In the summer they have cafe tables outside and there's always the upstairs part where elegant dinners reign.

Maldaner's Restaurant, Since 1884, Springfield, Illinois

That's a real practical recommendation in the Chicago forum.

Anyway, I always recommend Arun's because it's cool and it's off the beaten path. Also, the following thread might prove useful: https://www.city-data.com/forum/chica...estaurant.html

Drover....I only recommended this because some people do come to Springfield. And take their mistresses or wives with them. I also clarified it by saying if you come to Springfield area. If people want to ignore my comments they will....I didn't see anyone else making an issue of my post. I guess downstate people aren't welcome in the Chicago threads. What is with this!! You know, I come to Chicago some and was interested in restuarants there. I see you commenting on the general Illinois threads and even specific threads about downstate cities. Come on ....ease up.

Relax. If people want to find out about the Springfield dining scene, they'll ask about it in the Illinois forum. When they ask about restaurants in the Chicago forum, they're not looking for a place to grab a bite to eat after visiting the Lincoln Library.
