Well, now there are certainly a lot more young, white kids there than in years past. That's the change everyone's talking about in regard to Pilsen. But even my oldest friend from Pilsen didn't move there until he was nine years old in 1982 (from Mexico City). He's a photographer, and he seems to think the burgeoning art scene is pretty new--especially in terms of galleries with street frontage. But it's not surprising that a neighborhood with a rich cultural identity like Pilsen would have had artists for decades. I don't think anyone was calling Pilsen an "artsy" neighborhood until much more recently, however.

No, really, it's because a. i don't like living with anyone else and Edgewater has plenty of housing for loners like me and b. i'm lazy and don't want to walk more than two blocks to anything.
