Sorry ! what do you mean !

because what I meant is Class A in term of safety, new buildings, clean good streets, availability of nice shops and resturants.

Like where I live we have districts which are new streets, clean, safe, good sweage system, expensive of course. only people who have good jobs can afford living there like busnissemen, doctors, lwayers, ect..

other districts are old, dirty street somtimes, small as well, bad sweage system, cheap bad resturants, ect.. and of course cheap to live there. So, you will find people with low income who live there.
from what I read here, south and north of chicago looks like that !!

Don't you have this in USA !!

I agree with Soulful's post. You will be safe in Lincoln Park or Lakeview generally and once you get used to Chicago and have some more information then you can decide if you want to stay there and move someplace else. Remember the cheap places are mostly cheap for a reason and that could mean that the neighborhood is unsafe. Better to get a smaller place or pay a little more. Zip codes are like postal codes. They are useful for mailing letters but not really used much for apartment hunting. Rather neighborhoods are what is referred to. Some key neighborhoods or areas on the north side of Chicago are Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Lincoln Square, etc. There are many others. Generally these mentioned will be safe. Make sure you locate near an "L" line to get into the city. YOu can find these on maps. You can consult many websites regarding maps and neighborhoods. Also check out Craigslist for apartment rental offerings to get an idea of price.

Here is a great place I used in Wicker Park. And one of only a handful of female owned apartment rental companies in Chicago. Rent Here Realty Home Page: http://www.renthererealty.com
