Yeah, but does Kansas City have a huge amount of people (that do not own cars) waiting for buses and trains as well as walking on a regular basis?

This a big reason is why it is worse here in winter for a higher percentage and number of people than many other places.

That is the difference.

That is part of the truth behind the Chicago weather myth.

Number of CTA only Bus rides in 2008:328.2 million
Number of CTA only train rides in 2008:198.2 million
(Mind you this is not including Pace bus ridership and Metra rail ridership)

Number of Kansas City METRO ridership in 2008:16.5 million

This is a pretty good point, it's not that many -- but a lot of the people I knew/know there did do a lot of standing outside because they were students walking around campus.

I forgot about that segment of the population and it should have been obvious to me. Thanks for pointing that out!

"In response to the CTA's increased ridership, the city of Chicago has plans in process to fail completely to communicate amongst itself; thus ensuring the continued trend of every neighborhood acting as its own independent city state with a corrupt alderman on top of the garbage pile.

"University of Chicago?" Said Southside resident Keyshia Cole. "When did they come along and start buying all our land?"

"What?" Gold Coast resident Ellen St. Laurent-Hydesmith Waiteworth stated, in response to the city's non-plans to revamp its transit infrastructure.

Why do so many people who want to live in Chicago believe it is absolutely required to live east of Western Ave? The neighborhoods are trendy, but cost. Many other parts of the city are fine and cheaper.

Plenty of action.
I lived by Addison and Cicero for years. Not much for young people, but I had a large 4 room apartment for $600. Getting to Wicker Park, the Loop, etc was easy via the CTA or by car. Places like Portage Park are fine, it's still in the city and cheaper. Plus, less parking problems. Many Polish delis with great food.

Default Nah

What's with this Western talk. I agree if you're talking about down near the United Center, but Western and California, and Kedzie get really very nice once you get North of North...
