This is true, but in reality, I think the Bears organization has a bit more say in this than the Park District or city.

I recall reading that one of the reasons Wrigley was picked over Soldier Field for the Hawks/Wings game New Years Day was that the Bears didn't want any damage to the field that could affect potential playoff games.

And I remember everyone laughing about the idea of the Bears in the playoffs.

Granted, that could have been an excuse McDonough used to pass up a stadium far more suited for this purpose - ie at least the majority of fan at soldier field would have some idea of what's going on - over a stadium like Wrigley, which has a better marketing punch, but won't be too sightline friendly for the schmoes who pay a couple hundred bucks to not see a hockey game in the cold.

Seriously. We are talking about grass/turf?

This is a very historical situation going on here. I would love to come in town for it, but, the job situation won't allow it.

Think about it. You can tell your kids/grandkids that you were there....WOW.

Daley is feeling a whole lot better about the rally, now that Obama is footing the bill. (You gotta love that his campaign has cooked up a scheme of graduated fees for media coverage.) I think it's going to be south, near where the soccer fields and baseball diamonds are, so as to minimize damage to the park. As for the surrounding area, I guess we will have to wait and see how they fare.
For me, I am hoping that Obama will be delivering his short concession speech - yet another opportunity for the adoring throngs to cry in his presence.

I wasn't aware we were going to have to buy tickets? I might not go if it costs money, but if it's cheap/free I'll be there.

I'll be there, even though it's totally pointless.
He's already got my vote, he's pretty much a lock for the job and an Obama rally in Chicago doesn't exactly accomplish anything of utility. But yeah, I'll be there if for no other reason than I can tell my kids that I went to an Obama rally in Chicago.
