I personally think Chicago beats New York.

I dunno.

I've never been to Sao Paolo but it has far more high-rises than Chicago.

And the South Florida coast does too, from Miami northward.

This is easily seen on a plane flight. South Florida has high-rises for MILES northward well into the suburbs past even Ft. Lauderdale, and Chicago has what? About 5 miles of them?

Default Still could be second in the world

Points are awared to the cities with the most number of buildings and how many stories the building contain. Hong Kong and New York have over 5,500 completed buildings while Chicago has just over a thousand, thus Hong Kong and New York beating Chicago in points awared. Sao Paulo on they other hand may have more completed buildings but most of the buildings lack original design and aren't taller than 200m- thus more points awared to Chicago.

But Sao Paolo and South Florida's "skylines" are atrociously ugly. All too similar, nothing striking, not much density (in So FL).

I rank Chicago's skyline just slightly over Hong Kong's, and here's why: better architecture BY FAR. Hong Kong's skyline is immense and nicely framed by small mountains, but the building designs are not very appealing for the most part. Its nicely balanced and all, but just kinda funky, not my style. Its definitely in the top 5 in the world, but IMO its not as appealing as Chicago's skyline. NYC will always have the best skyline, there is just absolutely no competition when it comes to size/density. I do think Chicago's skyline is better balanced than NYC's skyline though.

My top 5 skylines:

1. NYC
2. Chicago
3. Hong Kong
4. Pittsburgh
5. mmmm Seattle probably

The points are based not just on the number, but also the heights of the buildings. Sao Palo has a lot of highrises, but they don't have the super-talls to really punctuate a skyline. So Sao Palo comes in at number 6 because of it's lack of height and variation.

Pound for pound, i think Chicago Skyline is better than NYC. NYC has the size and magnitude, which is impressive, but parts just seem monotonous. Chicago pales in terms of size, but I feel there buildings have more unique qualities to them.

If NYC is the Muhammad Ali of skylines, Chicago is Sugar Ray Robinson.

Pittsburgh's skyline is really beautiful, IMO. More so at night...

I agree 100%, I think NYC is over-rated only because of it's size
