I think that within the city the flooding was confined mainly to my neighborhood (Albany Park). Our building didn't get any water, but the city basically closed off all streets coming into the neighborhood so it was a royal pain to get back home after we went out this morning. Plus most of the traffic that normally would have been on Foster was on Lawrence instead, making it even more congested than usual.

Did get to meet lots of neighbors though - it was like a community event.

One neighborhood south of you in Irving Park. It's as if nothing happened here but a bit of drizzle.

It's strange. Our basement flooded a few inches last year with a lot less rain, but this time we were bone dry. Phew! Apparently Chicago got more rain than Houston, which is pretty stunning considering the size of that hurricane.

Most of the rain came Friday night - Saturday afternoon, before the remnants of Ike got here. I was fearing an additional 4-5 inches on Sunday; we actually caught a bit of a break in that regard.

I realize that. But WBBM was saying we had more rain from that system than Houston got from Ike, and this was before the remnants of Ike even reached us. Of course we didn't have the high winds and storm surge... And of course, that's the real issue with Ike.

We got some water in our basement, but were able to confine it to the unfinished area with the washer/dryer. Considering how much rain we got, I can't complain too much.
