Yet another Chicago politician is attempting to "annoint a successor" as if he is a medieval king or duke (see link to Sun Times article below). When are voters going to wise up to this B.S.? I was happy to see that William Beavers lost his attempt to hand his seat to his daughter, but we're still stuck with Stroger and Lipinski. This corrupt practice has to end!

Boy, if only there were some way for voters to indicate, every few years, whether they approve of an elected official's performance . . .

To answer your question, I'll say an oligarchy, which is just as bad. Though the Daleys are kind of like monarchs, I'd guess.

No, the Democratic partys power in C(r)ook County and Chicago needs to end. The Democratic party is the problem. They sanction and encourage this behavior. It is their nature.

If the party can be cleansed of these goofs then things would be much better.

I think it's just Illinois politics in general. The Republicans have pulled the same stunts when they were in power (George Ryan anyone?). I'm not a lover of John Kass at the Tribune, but he is on to something when he talks about the corrupt Democrat-Republican "combine" that controls Illinois.

George Ryan pulled the same retiring and basically giving up his office for a relative stunt? No. I hate Ryan, but he and the Republican party as a whole do not do those sorts of things on the level (if really at all) that the Democratic party does.

Chicago Democrats have it honed down to a science.

"Emil Jones III, 31, has kept a low profile. He worked for the state between May 1999 and November 2006, when he briefly left the payroll.

Despite not having a college degree, he was hired in April 2007 as an administrator for Gov. Blagojevich's Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity -- a job that pays $59,436 annually. Attempts to reach him Monday were unsuccessful."

WOW. Just WOW.

But it's more the "Chicago" than the "Democrat", as far as I'm concerned. The Democrats just happen to have a grip on power here. I know it's a cliche, but absolute power does corrupt absolutely...

I say this as a Democrat, but Chicago Democrats can be a whole special sort of stupid that has driven me to pull the lever for a 3rd party or a Republican on more than one occasion.

It isn't so much Democrat, but decades of unchallenged entrenched power that causes such problems.

Of course. About 90% of the Democrats elected by the people in the city need to be thrown out. If it takes a third party or voting for a Republican than let it be. I have voted for people in both parties over the years.

The problem is too many Democrats that live in Chicago are brainwashed into voting for Democrats only, no matter how poor and unqualified the candidate is.

Example: Todd Stroger

I bet half the people that voted for Todd Stroger in the city thought they were voting for John Stroger. It is a joke.
