I'm moving to Chicago at the end of August. I would like to know what is the job market like in Hyde Park? I'm seeking a job in the accounting field. Any recommendations where to apply for jobs?

This should be posted in the Chicago forum. Maybe it can be moved.

I know the job market in general around here is pretty bad. IL unemployment rate is now like 6.5 percent for July - up from June. I have been told that all the career counseling places in the burbs are swamped lately by unemployed people.

Although accounting is pretty recession proof.

Default Job searching in general

Hyde Park is anchored by the University Of Chicago - school + hopsital + college - check their website 1st for openings.

There are a few businesses in the Hyde park area - but no coroprate factions or headquarters that mirror the Accounting needs of a company like GE, Siemens, or Allstate.

Many of the career specific placement agencies will most likely get you a job in downtown area - our skyscrapers are full of major companies - Prudential / Smurfitt Stone / Blue Cross etc. The hurdle is actually beating out the competition - remember that 80% of the South side works/commutes to downtown PLUS many suburbanites communte INTO the city as well.

If you have the credentials to earn 45K + get a RECRUITER. Otherwise you'll be rolling the dice like everybody else.
