I think Chicago is overrated.

When I was in my 20s, me, boyfriend, 2 other couples moved there. all ended up leaving, burnt out and couldnt wait to get out with 5 years.

Chicago is a FUN place to VISIT, but living there STINKS, unless you have a job that pays 100,000+ a year and isnt too stressful.

I know the odds are very low-but I would love if Obama gave do-nothing jobs to Daley and Stroger in the federal government. Then we can actually elect people that can do the job and not give us the shaft every year.

By the way all of Manhattan is downtown. You mention skyscrapers not being everywhere. That is true but not every area of a downtown has skyscrapers. Put any part of Manhattan in any other city and it would be considered the downtown without debate. Just because there is not a skyscraper on every corner doesnt mean its any less of a downtown. Thats whats great about Manhattan is that not every area is completely the same. Some of their lowest points have the coolest areas, stores, novelty shops, etc. And please dont mention harlem. People do live downtown in all cities. That is a part of downtown..

You are just wrong about that. The Upper East Side is pretty darn residential, even though the density is high. The "downtowns" of Manhattan are Midtown and, well, Downtown or "Lower Manhattan" on the southern end of the island.

Some people consider Lincoln Park "Downtown Chicago", and those people are called morons.

Well Lake View is in the city limits so it is the city. All of the city is not in downtown however and downtown does not consist of the entire city.

I live in Lake View-it has always been Lake View (or Lakeview if you prefer) to me.

Well actually Lake View and Lincoln Park were once a suburb of the city contained in a town called Lake View before it was annexed.

I only say "the city" when referencing something that is actually within the city limits. If you do not do this people will recognize you as a transplant or suburbanite right away.

. . . says the mope who in this post extolls the greatness of NYC because, as opposed to Chicago, it's tropical, cheap, and completely devoid of poser-hipsters.

Troll much?
