The news today say Chicago's murder rate is up 18 percent from last year. They also said from a 7 months period from January to July, 291 people had been killed and 62-65 of them in July alone been killed. They said if this continue, it will be over 500 murders for 2008, the most since 2003. With all the cameras being installed and handgun ban in the city, you will think Chicago will have a murder rate low as New York City. I mean everytime you turn on the news, its at least 2-3 people got shot or killed every day. Whats your opinion on tthe city's increasing murder rate, and what do you think the Mayor or the city can do about it ?

Not sure the crime rate in any region really matters if violent crime largely occurs in areas of region where law-abiding taxpayers don't bother living/working/visiting anyway....

Have always been impressed how low is relevant crime rate in vast majority of allegedly high-crime regions like NYC/LA, etc etc....media hype and poor interpretation of statistics are always amusing....

Hmm. Given that most of the residents of high-crime neighborhoods are law-abiding taxpayers, I suppose this means that crime everywhere pretty much matters.

I keep seeing anonymous posts on the internet from supposed CPD personnel saying that morale is low on the force and the police are afraid to do their jobs because of increased oversight by Jodi Weis. If this is the case, we've got the biggest group of whiners on the force that I've ever seen. And if the police are intentionally letting things slide to make Weis look bad, they are just as guilty as the criminals themselves.

Of course, these are all "ifs". I suspect that MOST of the CPD is doing the best job they can. And I think we need to give them all of the resources they need to get things under control.

So basically, if the middle class and upper class don't live there then who cares? Classy. Real classy.

Its a sad affair to be sure. Hopefully the new Superintendant can clean things up... but nothing noticeable yet!

You can start by saying that he is right. We as a country, do not care about the poor regardless of color.

Feel free to speak for yourself. Don't speak for me or the country I live in and try to make a better place.

And how do you try to make this country a better place?
