Keep in mind that Metra gets a much higher amount of taxpayer subsidy per passenger than the CTA. No doubt there's cronyism and waste in the CTA, but having to run operations on a shoestring budget with deferral of capital upgrades is a big problem that can't be overcome without more income.

Again, what are you talking about? Please tell me what you have experienced or seen to make you feel unsafe riding a 50 mph train through these "rough spots"? In all my years of riding the Metra Electric Line I have never felt even remotely unsafe because of the "rough spots" that the train travels through. Sounds like alarmist, stereotyping crap to me.
It's pretty much just what I said, it's not as safe after rush hour on a weekday. The people sitting in front of me, didn't have a ticket about 2 weeks ago. I have had a person ask me to buy a ticket for them, and I have seen kids as young as 6 or 7 riding alone.

Yes, I would call some of the areas the line passes through, rough spots. And you need to be cautious in some areas, you never know what might happen. There is no stereotyping going on, if you were to look up crime rates in some of these areas you would know they aren't the safest. But obviously if I was freaking out and going crazy, I would not ride the electric line. It is a quick reliable meens of public transport.

I voted CTA. I know Metra is more reliable, cleaner, blah blah blah. But to me the CTA represents a city lifestyle while the Metra represents a suburban one (even though Metra does have some city stops). I'd rather live along CTA routes than Metra routes. But if you can get both, then you're in a sweet spot!

LOL...and that factors into "dangerous" how? Because their parents havent raised them in a little suburban bubble chauffeuring them everywhere? I started riding the train and bus by myself at the age of 9. We've grown into a nation of wusses.

Seriously, if you think that's dangerous and it makes you feel unsafe, you might be better off driving.

I am obviously being misunderstood, the OP asked about saftey and I gave my response. All I was saying was you just need to be cautious sometimes, thats all. If I felt so completly scared, then I would drive, but I don't. On top of that I wouldn't have voted yes on this poll.
