From emporis.com, the leader in architectural building information on the web:

"Today Chicago ranks with New York City, Hong Kong, Dubai, and Shanghai as one of the world's five largest skylines. From one end of the lakefront to the other, skyscrapers are lined up along the beautiful parks and beaches - rising higher and higher toward the center where dizzying clusters of towers reach for the clouds and beyond."

Chicago is not New York, but it's some some sleepy rust belt midwestern burg either. It's a city of international prominence, but not on the scale of New York. If you come to Chicago looking for New York, you will be disappointed. Chicago is Chicago, and nothing else.

The post by SlickRick was too dumb to comment on, other than to say it's dumb.

Actually, it appears that the poster was trying very hard to convince him/herself that Chicago is not on NYC's level. Too hard.

Toronto's downtown is definitely not bigger than Chicago's.

Anyway, what's the point of bumping some old thread just to b*tch about someplace you don't like? Don't like Chicago? Don't live here. It's just truly sad to go to a city's forum to complain about said city.

You couldn't buy anything in Manhattan for $500,000.

I lived in the Bronx, and later Manhattan, for a few years. I moved back to Chicago and never looked back.

I agree. In fact, there is another thread about this concept: https://www.city-data.com/forum/chica...e-chicago.html

If you are like me, you love comparing Chicago with NYC, and making note of all the things the Big Onion does just as well/better than the Big Apple.
