I just accepted an offer to work in Northbrook, but I'm 23, from Phoenix, and want to rent an apartment in the city -- possibly in Wrigleyville. Does anyone know how the parking/traffic situation to Northbrook is? My drive in Phoenix is already a disaster, with an hour and a half to get just 20 miles, so I think I could be prepared for the worst.

Any thoughts/suggestions for someone seeking the vibe of the city but working in the suburbs? I found out that the train station isn't by the company (Allstate), so that also eliminates that option unfortunately. At this point I would appreciate ANYTHING as I know absolutely nothing. Thanks!

Doesn't Allstate provides buses from The Metra to Allstate? I'm not starting there until February so I can't really be of any help, but you might contact them and ask.

While I can't help you there, I can tell you what people have been telling me about the commute for the last few weeks when I was looking at places in Wrigleyville/Lakeview: it's going to suck. Pretty much no matter where you live on the north side, it's going to be a pain. I guess 90/94 and 294 are busy pretty much non-stop and I don't know if there's any better way to get there.

I ended up getting a place in Andersonville, which is a little farther north, but still just a short cab or 'L ride to Wrigleyville. I'm not sure the commute will be any different, but I'll give it a shot.

You'll be fine. The commute will be about an hour to 1 hr. 15 min. most days, 1 1/2 hrs. or more sometimes. I'd shoot myself, but if you're already used to that kind of commute, go for it.
