Chicago had a deadly heat wave in 1995.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Chicago_heat_wave

The media sensationalize weather events now more so than in the past and use melodramatic names for things. Polar vortex, bomb cyclone, heat dome, etc.

Tbh i feel sorry for Chicagoans right now. At least it will change after 2 days. Reminds me of the heatwaves in my city, but Chicago is a humid heat. Stay safe.

There was a heat index of 116 in the suburbs yesterday. Even on previous upper 90s/100 degree days, I don't remember a heat index that high.

Heat index was 115 yesterday in the city, and 116 today. That is dangerous. People with no A/C have to get into shelters or businesses, whatever.

But tomorrow's high won't even hit 80, so it's over after today.

I mean it was pretty hot today and there are some places with no A/C. It is important for media to cover it.

The last two or three summers have been quite mild, even while Europe and other parts of North America were experiencing record heat waves. While it's not entirely unexpected in August, I honestly can't remember the last time it got this close to 100.

I lived in Naples, FL for 5 years. Temperature is 95 degrees and the dew point is 75 degrees every freaking day for about six months. That makes the heat index 107 degrees every day. I lived in or near Chicago most of my life, I hated the winters far more than a few hot and humid days in the summer. https://www.calculator.net/heat-index-calculator.html

It hit 100 degrees three times last year.
