Sounds good especially as you have roommates lined up. Hopefully you also already have some friends or even family in the city or general area.

Echoing other people, I'd ditch the car if possible (to what degree do you "need" this car?). Used cars are going for an all-time high and you're moving to one of the few areas in the US where not having a car is actually reasonable without seeing a massive drop in quality of life as there's a host of other ways to get around. If you like it and get settled, consider getting in-state residency and then in-state tuition for college as UIC covers a lot of subjects and is pretty good for its costs.

Absolutely go for it. Especially if you have roommates lined up.. Get a kitchen job. Discounted/free meals usually. And working in a restaurant is the easiest way to make friends to go have a beer with after work.

Constantly looking for a parking spot will crush your soul.

"Constantly looking for a parking spot will crush your soul."

I have no idea how many hours of my life I spent looking for a parking spot when I visited and lived in Chicago, or the amount of money it cost me to park once I found one. That said, to enjoy a city the size of Chicago and everything there is to do in the suburbs, I can't imagine not having a car. Sure you can get around the city to some degree, but getting out of a somewhat limited area seems like it would be difficult at best.

If you're a young broke guy just know that most women are very career driven and everyone will want to know what you do for a living. IF you meet a random girl at a bar she will ask that to size you up.

Also, I live in west lakview off southport and almost never had a trouble finding a parking spot. Same thing with Wrigleyville.

Right, keep on supporting the Latino neighborhood gentrification (displacement). We colonized Bucktown, Logan Square, Humboldt Park, Pilsen, and now Avondale. What's 1 more neighborhood right?

Much like Hispanics/Latinos displaced many of the predominantly eastern European and Jewish residents there 50 years prior. Neighborhoods change. Welcome to the world.

Plus it's laughable to think Humboldt Park is being "colonized" as West HP is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods with only slivers of East HP seeing improvements.

***Or you can play it mysterious and just say “I don’t talk about what I do.” If she keeps asking, just repeat yourself “I can’t talk about what I do.”
