My mother has given me the undaunting task of finding her a 3 day get away for June 20- 23. She live in Chicago South suburbs and is willing to drive up to 5 hours. She does not want to fly. She is in her late 50's and will be traveling with her beau.
They like jazz and blues and dancing, and want some culture (if you know what I mean
). She want to go somewhere that have a lot of activities.
I'm thinking a nice jazz club/restaurant for one of the nights. Nice hotel. I'm trying to find her something different, fun and affordable.
Anyone have any suggestions please?

Are you hoping to get out of Chicago? Because there aren't that many cultural offerings within five hours of the south suburbs. You could try Milwaukee or St. Louis. Milwaukee has some really nice things to do. But if you want Jazz and/or Blues, Chicago is definitely the place to be.

I would highly suggest St. Louis, easy 5 hour drive down 55, well-priced hotels (she can stay 4 star for under $200 a night unlike Chicago!) and plenty of Jazz and Blues clubs as well as many other things to do for entertaining purposes. Baseball, the Muny (largest and oldest outdoor theater in the US that shows Broadway musicals all summer), the Anheuser Busch brewery tour, and plenty of tourist activities (including the Arch) to entertain your mom and her Beau happily I should think.
