There has definitely been some crime related to shutting down sectors of the economy.

That being said, there were also numerous changes to law enforcement from policing to prosecution so let's not ignore that elephant in the room.

Heard on the radio yesterday this 18yo is facing 4 felonies from pistol whipping and pointing a gun at people at a warming center. My first thought was how much probation they'll get after pleading guilty to misdemeanors.

Mathguy, good morning and Happy Friday,

Yes! And there were car break-ins in Naperville, as well, somewhat recently.

Be careful out there, everyone!!

I would have posted this under Chicago Suburbs but read the guidelines and they don't want crime related posts there.

Thanks.
I wanted to post a follow-up on my trip to the Chicago suburbs. In short, all was well.

When we checked into the hotel I did ask if catalytic converter theft had been an issue there lately, but they said the last time that happened was about three years ago. During my stay we were in Downers Grove, Wheaton, and Geln Ellyn. All three areas seemed mostly well kept.

We had to buy a few things at the Downers Grove Walmart and I didn't see anything locked up, though I didn't go through the entire store, and there was a large number of u-scan lanes with customers seemingly scanning and paying as they should.

Hello to Master Jay, whom I assume will like my positive post. One negative comment, though not crime related: I will never complain about crazy drivers in Cincinnati ever again. Chicago has us beat for that.

Thanks for the travel tips.

blickcd, GOOD MORNING!

Oh we can all use all the positive energy that's out there to give so, THANK YOU for sharing!

One gets "accustomed" to the driving in places like Chicago and Milwaukee, might be one way to say it.

I'm glad you had a nice visit. If you plan another, reach out. There are some really great contributors on here as I'm sure you have seen!

DG, Wheaton and Glen Ellyn are very well off, nice, suburbs in DuPage County.

Wheaton and Glen Ellyn have excellent schools, especially. Glen Ellyn, in some parts is "rich rich" - Glenbard West HS looks like a castle (although I know its had some necessary renovations).

I grew up spending a lot of time in Glen Ellyn - quaint little downtown, rich kids, if you ever saw or heard of the movie Lucas - it's filmed there. Great coming of age movie from quite a few years back now. Charlie Sheen is in it.

Kmanshouse, we had dinner at Barones in Glen Ellyn. The place was packed, and the food was awesome. I understand the restaurant has been in business forever and is somewhat locally famous. Rock on.

Yeah, I actually lived in one of those cities....it's a nice area and to encounter crime on a trip there would have been pretty rare.

Good morning,

I viewed (sometimes I choose not to watch something in its totality, so as to not make my blood boil!) a news report yesterday, about a woman who was attacked in the Jefferson Park neighborhood.

It appears she was walking down Lawrence Avenue around 5:00 a.m. on Monday or Tuesday, and was robbed, and further attacked by 4 armed individuals.

YIKES! Be careful out there, everyone.

Jay, there are always going to be incidents like this - there are still robbery crews running around targeting people walking on the street. The incidents have decreased but they are still happening.

I read that crime in January 2024 was down substantially compared to January 2023. However, down was from a big number...

Kmanshouse, good morning,

UGH, it still makes my blood boil!

And yes, I also read last night that there were several armed robberies spanning from Lincoln Park westward towards Austin, possibly by the same crew.

P.S. We need to get a brew/wine in the good ol' Lincoln Square neighborhood!
