"We arrest murderers, the States' Atty' charges them; and then the courts release them w/no bail".

Damn, get it together...bunch of clowns can't even run a circus.

Even if this piece of puke mayor is only a one term wonder, I don't know what anyone could do to change the mindset of the thugs in control of the neighborhoods.

Good morning,

As someone who works in a "Correctional" facility, you can imagine how my head spins when we get someone who is out on PROBATION, has an already OPEN/PENDING case, and then is re-arrested for NEW charge(s)!

It is sad that we as a Nation have the most incarcerated people and still waaaaaay short on amount of prison cells to house all that commit crimes..... so many just lower sentences for drug offenses as not to clog up prison space for merely a couple months of a stay to a couple days even.... common Nationwide.

Sadly, these reoccurring worst of crimes with weapons and shootings is what is WORST when we see too many left off easy and again .... not enough space to hold all the bad-apples.

When will we pass legislation then to BUILD BABY BUILD PRISONS.... then increase taxes to pay for them and all the wages of guards and other personal to house them for long periods without a easy in and out???

We have on side say many just need rehabilitation and help to move past their evil ways.... others NO TAXES to pay for such things as even NEEDED PRISON SPACE to house all that get in trouble with BAD CRIMES.... yet alone off easy for drug offenses now. Just the fines remain and blemishes on ones permanent record that effect them getting hired for jobs for life.

From the link.
- The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. This is despite the national incarceration rate being at its lowest in 20 years.
- About 25% of the world’s total prison population is in the United States, which holds about 2.19 million prisoners as of 2019 (1.38 million in federal and state prisons, 745,200 in jails).
- Mass incarceration in the United States has led to several problems. Among these are overcrowded prisons, which lead to increased health risks and decreased psychological well-being.

- Additionally, the increasing number of prisoners puts a major strain on state budgets.
- State prisons spend as high as $69,355 per inmate (the average cost of an inmate in New York). Prisons control and administer all aspects of life for inmates, resulting in a long list of costly necessities. Costs include food, recreational activities, educational opportunities, adequate security, utility costs, infrastructure maintenance, and health care.

. Additionally, high recidivism rates show that incarceration is ineffective and harmful to offenders, their families, the victims, and law enforcement if an offender does time without proper counseling and assimilation back into their community. Many prisoners have difficulty reestablishing relationships, finding jobs, and staying away from criminal activity after being released.

The United States has about 437 prisoners per 100,000 people as of the end of 2019, a 2.6% drop from 2018.
- As of 2018, the imprisonment rate of black males was 5.8 times greater than that of white males, and the imprisonment rate of black females was 1.8 times greater than the of white females.

- New Hampshire, Vermont, Minnesota, Rhode Island, Maine, and Massachusetts have the lowest prison incarceration rates of under 200 per 100,000 people.

- In terms of imprisonment rate per 100,000 people, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Mississippi have the highest rates, 680, 639, and 636, respectively.

Either way one sees it -- We have to build more Prisons and more of that bureaucracy of COST $$$ even if we do more Privately run Prisons that are for Profit..... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That means you DIVE INTO YOUR POCKETS FOR TAXES.

* So where do you stand on more TAXES for PRISONS and more MANDATORY LONG TERMS to house them and the COST for those years when eventually most will get out anyway?

People, the intended topic of this thread is Mayor Lightfoot, not the prison system. Please return to the topic presented in the opening post. Thanks.

Well then, the mayor could do what China, Iran, etc do to keep their prison populations below US levels. Can you guess what that is?
