Theres a reason cRook county and Illinois is losing population every year.... I suggest you research, then visit. Stay in the area you would want to live and factor the cost of living , high taxation, and possible fair tax coming...

Then consider the move.

Don't move anywhere until you have a job lined up.

I was just about your age when I decided to move from Cleveland to Chicago. I lived in Chicago for 20 years, and even though it's now over, I'm very glad to have had that time. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Of course, I was in a good situation. I was in the right place at the right time to accept a promotion/job transfer with my company, which was headquartered in Chicago. I already wanted to move there, so for me it was a no-brainer.

You would be well advised to assess your potential earning power in Chicago vs. what your cost of living would be. Chicago is more expensive than Cleveland. It's quite a bit more expensive now than when I moved there, especially if you want to live in the choice areas of the city where the action is.

Move to wherever you have the best concentration of jobs in your field and the best salary/COL ratio.
