The pedway is much better than before. It used to have street access on Wabash but that is gone now -- it is on Randolph.

In the old days (20 years ago) I used the pedway from Michigan Avenue all the way to city hall. Under block 37 it was dank, had standing water in drains and smelled of sewer gas. Now it is much better with the eateries in Block 37. Outside of Macys the walk is often dirty with the revolving doors not working but that can be avoided.

From my experience, the pedway is MUCH better than it had been. Now the shops are back between Metra and Macys. Previously one could get to the Chase bank on Michigan and Randolph without going outside but the building cut out pedway access (without ID) so in this inclement weather a person has to use the outside steps.

My main complaint with the pedway is that it is not nearly long enough. Plus, for access to the 25 east Washington building, a person has to wait until 10 am when Macys opens. I realize that there is no cure for this (the area used to be Marshall Field's mens store in the seventies) but it is a shame.

and think what it would have done for the medway if in the to the Block 37 stretch you could have taken an escalator down one flight and jumped on an express train to O'Hare. Or Midway. Oh, well.

Elon to the rescue (or does that only happen for boys stuck in a cave?)

But they are never over aggressive w their panhandling. Ive seen stores come and go, but believe me, it is still used, in rain or snow especially... much more crowded underground than at the street level.

You may be me. I walk the exact same path M-F.

The pedway is good for when you want to escape the rain and snow and even the very hot weather if you cant stand the hot weather. So its good for that.

I dont use it to go shopping, it does not have to be just for shopping.
