I've read all the threads I could find, but I didn't find the answer to my specific question.
I live in Hyde Park, and would like to stay there.
Next year I'll be working up at Northbrook.
The commute will take me on 90 and then 294. Alternatively, I could take 90 and then 94. How does that sound? Is 90 and 94 usually packed?

Also, what times are the morning and afternoon rush hours?

Thanks!

Wow. That is a horrible commute (sorry!). First, there is no reverse rush hour, so even though you are going from south to north, you aren't going to get much of a break. I would say that rush hour is from 6:30ish to 9ish and then from 3:00-3:30ish to 6:30-7:00ish. Anyone disagree?

Dont forget a Cubs game,Sox game, or Bears game (and sometimes two on the same day) can throw off a commute in from Northbrook or out to Northbrook.

Actually a good alternative is L.S.D. to Congress into 290 and 290 to 294 . Or take the Dan Ryan to 290 then 290 to 294

I know someone who had to commute from Beverly to Grayslake! (SHe moved)

But she told me going directly through the city was faster than any other route, and this was during Dan Ryan construction, so my advice is Dan Ryan to KEnnedy to Edens.

I'd like to be in the bahamas right now, but reality dictates otherwise.

You need to move out of Hyde Park, that commute will be terrible.

Ouch! I see someone in for a hanging soon. More like hanging themselves! That is horrible bro. Sorry. You will need to move, you're looking at a 90 min drive min.

I did Mag mile to Northbrook for 3 years. The posters above are pretty correct in summarizing your rather precarious situation. Friday's will be even worse. It used to take me sometimes 90 minutes on Friday afternoon and could take you upwards of 120 minutes to get home. Going in the wee hours of the morning is a 60 minute commute if all's well but if a drop of water should fall anywhere on the highway from the sky, that 60 minute will swell to 90 minutes. Furthermore, if you leave after 6 am but before 9 am, you are looking at a minimum of 90 minutes as has been stated. Wouldn't want to be in your shoes..ouch
