How different is Chicago crime?

I hear Chicago has more crime and shooting than Los Angeles. Most of those shootings, killings and homicide in Chicago is gang related in Chicago.

I thought Los Angeles has more gangs so it kinda of strange why would shootings, killings and homicide in Chicago be higher than Los Angeles.

I hear Chicago has a major drug epidemic and drugs like heroin, opioid and pan killers is major epidemic in Chicago. Could this explain why crime is higher in Chicago?

I hear drug epidemic is so bad in Chicago that there are people doing drugs on the subway, city bus and open view in public.

But California has meth and Chicago does not have that.

More homeless in California than Chicago. Not too many homeless in Chicago unlike other big cities like Los Angeles and San Diego.

I've seen people in public who were obviously under the influence of heroin or other opiates, but I've never seen anyone actually in the act of consuming it in public or on public transit. I mean, it wouldn't shock me if someone witnessed it sometime, but it's not a common occurrence. When I was in San Francisco, I saw people smoking either crack or meth in public.

Most of the bad crime is concentrated in a few really bad neighborhoods. While the rest of the city is not crime free its not bad there is a lot of national publicity about Chicago and while there is crime here, there are worse places with higher crime rates. I've never seen anyone in public taking drugs. I have been walking and got a whiff of someone smoking pot. That's it.

Now hear this: Per the rule set forth in the Sticky thread at the top of the Chicago forum index, threads about Chicago crime are no longer permitted. Whenever we try to have a civil discussion on this topic, the thread devolves into bashing, bickering, personal attacks, etc. The topic has been discussed ad nauseam in previous threads, and they never end well. This thread is now CLOSED, before it can follow the same track as the others.
