It doesn't really encompass parts of East Garfield Park. That is a separate community area SW of there. Here's the "official" map.

It gets more expensive the further north and east you go. The western and southern parts are rapidly gentrifying though.

Thanks for all of the input. I am looking to find a 1b ideally for under $1600, I have a car so I would need street parking.

Any suggestions on what other areas to look into?

Ukrainian Village and East Village, which are part of the West Town community area but a little nicer than the area you mentioned (not that where you mentioned is bad). The nicest parts are going to be east of Western Ave, west of Ashland, and north of Chicago Ave. Street parking isn't too terrible in the neighborhood, or a space is gonna run around $75-$100/mo. 1 bedrooms can be a bit tough to come by, but I see a lot of 2 bedrooms in the area listing for $1600ish
