Hi all,

I am moving to Logan Square in a couple months. A couple blocks west of western right off Milwaukee. I understand that this is near the Bucktown/Logan Square border.

I moved to Chicago about a year ago and have only lived in Lincoln Park.

I was hoping that some of you can tell me more about this area - general safety, etc....

I am a 26 year old male, by the way.

Thanks!

I used to live there too, particularly on Armitage and California.

So you got some Mexican restaurants and 1 Cuban restaurant nearby.

It is right at the edge of the gentrification wave that is pushing north and west. Eastern of Western, you are in Bucktown proper, a fairly prosperous area full of baby-stroller pushers. North of Fullerton, you are in hipsterish Logan Square. But right where you are moving, there is a large Hispanic presence and the physical appearance of Milwaukee Avenue is a little grungy.

I have never felt unsafe walking around there.

Logan Square is still divided. On Armitage west of Western, you got a Mexican barber shop that's $10 haircuts, and right across the street a White barbershop $35 haircuts.

And believe it or not, White people don't go to the $10 haircuts like me. I take advantage of Mexican places and neighorhoods.

Or maybe it's $25.

What's interesting to me, the half grocery store / hald restaurant on Armitage and Rockwell is all Mexican customers.

But the most diverse grocery store I ever been to is the Cermak Produce in Bridgeport, which is 1/4th White, 1/4th Hispanic, 1/4th Black, and 1/4th Asian customers. Wow!

My brother's Logan Square landlord just raised his rent $150 per month. 1 bedroom, vintage building obviously, no laundry.

Great area, good location, safe but of course you should be basic city savvy. Don't leave your car unlocked, or walk around mindlessly staring at your iPhone.

But it is exploding in popularity.
