In November, my and my husband's Chicago-registered car finally died, and his parents in Nebraska lent us their old one. It's still registered to them in Nebraska and it'll stay that way. In the last three months, however, we've collected at least 6 parking tickets. They aren't showing up on the Chicago Dept of Revenue website at all and * so far * my in-laws haven't gotten anything in the mail. What's happening to these tickets? Do we have to pay them? Will these all come due at some horrible day in the future?

First off-why didnt you pay them? What were they for? That car is now boot eligible. You really dont want to pay the fees associated with being booted if you dont retrieve it within 24 hours. Once booted you have to pay $60 plus all the tickets to retrieve the car. If you wait after 24 hours to get it you really will have to fork over some cash.

You better believe they will come after your in-laws with a collection agency after the fines have doubled and you have no chance to appeal them. Why do people think they will get away with not paying parking tickets?

Also, there are about a half dozen threads devouted to your question and ask almost the same exact thing.

I'll simply agree with Avengerfire by summing up his post: pay the tickets because they'll make you and/or your parents pay one way or the other.

May I mention that there is a good reason for parking regulations, other than revenue generation? There's even a good reason why folks should not overstay parking meters. I know there's a dearth of spaces but try to park legally.

Please pay those tickets before you get booted and towed.

Damn, 6 tickets is a lot. What are you doing so wrong that you keep getting caught? You're definitely able to get booted now (as you should!), and they're going to send tickets back to the registered owner saying what you've been ticketed for, and how much you owe with the interest and penalty for not paying on time.

I would park where I shouldn't every once in awhile, and they certainly won't catch you every time. It takes a lot of ignoring of the rules to get 6 tickets in a short amount of time.
