Just wanting to get some of you guys/gals reactions on the projects your anticipating the most in '08 as far as the supertalls go.

I know I'm pretty excited about the Aqua building (I'm guessing its gonna be completed in '08).

Also how do you guys think the new additions to our skyline will affect tourism and national attention on the city?

Well, there's the Trump building. I don't know when/if the Spire will be completed, but those two are probably the only ones that will generate much attention amongst the general public (non-skyscraper obsessed crowd).

Yeah, outside of the Spire and Trump, no individual building will raise our profile all that much. However, the combination of all of the big ones partnered with the Olympic bid should raise the city profile quite a bit. The Chicago river will be amazing once the Spire, Trump, 300 N LaSalle and Waterview are completed.

There are still people who couldnt pick the Sears Tower or the Hancock out of a lineup. I doubt any of the new towers will make any waves outside of the local area (with the exception of the Spire).

I don't know if that's true about the Sears tower. I think I read somewhere that more people recognize the Sears Tower than Madeline Albright. So, we're talking a pretty seriously high profile.

Aqua is slated for completion in mid-2009. Same goes for 300 N LaSalle and Waterview.

i agree with most of that, but i think the trump building will attract attention, not because of the building, but because it is trumps building.

the spire is "supposed" to be finished in 2011

I'd be surprised if all that many people knew who Albright is, let alone recognize her.

I got to watch the 300 N LaSalle building go up from about floor 2 until about floor 15 throughout the summer. My office building was right next door to it and I'd spend a lot of my time in between working staring outside of my office window and checking out how the building was being built. I remember me and my boss b.s.'ing making predictions on what it was going to be (neither of us knew anything about it and it was only about 6 floors at the time). After checking out skyscrapercity.com and looking at the rendering of the building I was pretty impressed.
