My girlfriend and I are heading to a Music Festival at Hawthorne Race Grounds and I keep hearing the Cicero is somewhat dangerous. Just would like to know what to expect so that I can make sure I keep her safe after the show. Thanks

Safe compared to where?

Is it safe compared to Winnetka? No. Is it safe compared to Englewood? Yes.

You will almost certainly be fine. It's a lower income Mexican community. Not the worst and not the best in terms of safety.

Is Cicero where the Italian restaurant owner was murdered last year?

Yep, isolated incident though.

It's a safe area.

Its relatively safe in my opinion. I've been there quite a bit over the past year and it seems fairly tame at least during the day time. I think its safer than many parts of the city. The murder of the restaurant owner happened on Roosevelt Rd, a part of Cicero that borders on the Austin neighborhood of Chicago and probably sees a fair amount of spill over crime.

Working class Hispanic suburb. Nothing to be afraid of.

You're going to a festival with thousands of people. Each and every one of you is going to get beaten, robbed, or shot along the way. In fact, in lieu of making all entrants go through a security check, they go through a "beat, rob, and shoot" check to make sure everyone has an unsafe experience.

If you want to flex those muscles, try keeping her safe in South Shore instead! That's my recommendation.. Good luck!!

If I were you I would call your local police department and the FBI a couple of days before going and tell them you will be in Cicero during those dates, just to be safe.
