Super excited to move back to Chicagoland as I'm from the Midwest region area originally. Going to miss the California climate, but not the cost of living!

Anything I should know about Chicago, any recommendations for areas near downtown, but not right in the city? Good for commuting, lower crime, not too congested, good restaurants/nightlife (I'm 27, male professional), etc.

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean about this - the downtown area is only a very small part of the city. Did you mean just not downtown or did you literally mean not in the city at all?

Just the downtown, sorry about that good clarification. Some people are recommending Oak Park and Logan Square.

Oak Park is not bad, though a suburb and a little more drawn back. It really depends on what your monthly budget is - what do you think it would be?

You really need to give more info about what you want, where you'll be working, budget, etc.

I'll be making 70K, plus my GF will make 50K or so. I'll be working right in downtown, by the river. I want to live closer to downtown, but not really RIGHT in downtown. We like restaurants, some nightlife, but not so crowded like in the downtown, if that makes sense.

My suggestions would be Wicker Park, Bucktown, Ukranian Village, Lincoln Park, or Lakeview.

Where did you live in SF? What kind of neighborhood are you looking for?

Perfect, thanks! I'll look those up.

I lived in San Jose/Santa Clara, so very much a surburb-type of feel but with lots of dense family units, with sky high rents.
