I want to move to Chicago but having never
been there and really knowing nothing about
it I was wondering where I might find an
affordable apartment. I am a young single
woman, so a safer neighborhood would be nice.

I found a couple apartments that appear good.....
does anyone have anythoughts on the
N. Glenwood area?

Honestly I have no idea where to even begin
looking so any advice would be great.

This board contains lots of info on safe neighborhoods. Look around.

I'd also recommend that you come visit.

Is North Glenwood a suburb? Are you looking to live in the city? Anyway, yeah, there are a lot of threads around here with some great opinions and advice on living in Chicago. It might take time, but it will definitely help. Good luck!

N Glenwood is a street, but it basically runs from Uptown all the way up to Touhy in Edgewater, so it's tough to make a generalization without knowing more about the specific cross-street. Those areas can be REALLY spotty. Some parts are nice. Others? Not so much.

Gotcha! Thanks for the clarification. I'm still learning!

You need to search this forum for Rogers Park. People will tell you different things. As a single female, I would not choose to live there. What is your price range and what do you want in the neighborhood?

I would stay out of the Rogers Park area if you are a single female living alone. Rogers Park has a lot of crime, it is not an area that you want to live alone in. There is a lot of violent crime and heavy drug trafficking in that area.

How much are you trying to spend on rent? Because I found an apartment on Dearborn/Plymouth Ct. right off State St in the heart of downtown. Check it out! It's called The Fisher Building. 5 to 10 minutes froms schools, jobs, and grocery stores. If I could afford to live downtown that's where I would live......GOOD LUCK!
