I've been craving some good and authentic Italian food, would like to make reservations to take my son and my mom out this Memorial Day weekend. I live in the Northwesternmost part of the city and I am open to suggestions in the area or nearby burbs like Elmwood or Melrose Park, Norridge/Harwood Heights, or any of the city neighborhoods near Ohare...if the place is really good I would be willing to trek deeper into the city however.

I know of some Italian spots up Harlem Avenue however it's only about twice a year I have the free time and cash to take my family to a fancy sit down so I don't want to do the trial and error thing. Somewhere nice and classy that I can make reservations for this weekend but also child friendly as I have a 4 and a half year old.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

My opinion would be Sabatino's. One of the most authetnic white table-cloth red sauce joints in the city, IMO. It's on the 4000 block of Irving Park.

I've heard good things about Agositno on Harlem as well but have never been there.

But Sabatino's is pretty special, IMO.

Just went to Pasta D'Arte for the first time recently and thought they were very good. They are at 6311 N. Milwaukee.

Rose Angelis on Wrightwood in Lincoln Park (if it's still there). Great place to take a date as well.

Sabatino's is awesome for something more authentic. I also really like Piazza Bela in Roscoe Village, although a little pricier.
