It can change block to block in Logan Square. If you are that worried about Logan Square, dont move there. I will tell you there are still plenty of gangs there. Lake View does not have anymore anywhere close to the kind of gang activity that Logan Square has.

No one I know here as far as I know,as well as myself, can tell you about every single block in Logan Square. Generally though, the further east and north you are in Logan Square the better off you are.

The general rule about Logan Square is stay east of Kedzie. The recent double-homicide (plus two others wounded) 3 blocks west of where that marker sits is a good reminder of why.

I'm around that area on a pretty frequent basis, and it seems fine to me. The general rule of staying East of Kedzie is mostly accurate, but is more true South of this area. Most parts of Logan Square that are close to Blue Lines stops are pretty safe. I drive by the property shown on the map twice a week picking my daughter up from daycare, and have been in the area late at night going to a friend's house pretty frequently. I have never felt that area was unsafe at all. Check chicagocrime.org for crime statistics.

And one of the things you'll find by looking carefully at those statistics is that there's an unusual number of murders right around the Belmont Blue Line stop. Though that's technically in Avondale, some still colloquially consider that Logan Square. However you look at it, there's a lot of activity right around that area in the northwest corner of Logan Square and southwest corner of Avondale. I reiterate: east of Kedzie, and I'll add south of Diversey on top of that.

I think of Logan square as a compromise when you want to own a place in the city but can't afford a better area. But when you're renting, Lakeview offers much more, although you pay a bit more. Personally, I would pick a place along the lakefront(even in Uptown or Edgewater) over anything in Logan.

that's exactly my case - can't afford a better area. I MIGHT be able to find a studio in Lakeview for 550-600$.. but i could get a better place in Logan...
Thanks for all your posts i now know where to stay away from

I know places in Lake View for that much. Are you talking about utilities included or without?
