Hey Chicago ladies and gentlemen, I used to live in Chicago, but now live in rural Montana. Could you ask for a bigger contrast? LOL! Anyway, I'm coming back for a visit to Chicago around Christmas time. I got a great deal at the congress plaza hotel on Michigan avenue. I've heard mixed things about this place. What is the Chicago city-data forum community's opinion of this hotel. Pros? Con? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I stayed there in 2012 and wouldn't go back. It's pretty run down, but not truly awful. They do have very attractive rates.

Agreed. The hotel is surprisingly mediocre for the location and, at least the one time I stayed there, I didn't have any control over the thermostat or the heat/AC in the room. At least they are supposedly done with the years-long hotel strike that was occurring there.

There are many much nicer hotels right in the vicinity, but they likely have higher rates.

There's a reason its priced cheaper than all the other hotels in the area. I wouldn't say you got a great deal, as much as you are paying a fair rate for a poorly maintained and staffed hotel in a great location.

Thanks for the info! I think I'm going to change my reservation. It sounds like the extra money will be worth it.

Do Priceline for express deals for hotels in Chicago. I got a great deal in August. I'd choose the 4 star hotel for $109 in North Michigan Av River north downtown. You choose the star ratings and region downtown. They choose which one for you from a pool of participating hotels. You find out which one when you pay. Just don't expect a big room with the best view.
I'd stick to north of the Chicago river if not in town for business. Just so much there now.
