My husband and I are looking at a condo to potentially buy at Kenmore and Argyle in Uptown. We currently live on Sheridan in Edgewater between the Granville and Thorndale stops. I've never felt particularly unsafe walking home from Thorndale, but I also try to make sure I'm not walking alone after dark very often. I searched old threads and can't seem to find any opinions about the Argyle/Kenmore area in recent years (everything is at least two years old). Any opinions on walking to/from the Argyle El stop and the Argyle/Kenmore area in general? Thanks!

The walk from the Argyle station to Kenmore isn't a long walk but it just feels sketchy over there. Personally, I wouldn't want to live there. It's gritty, dirty and there is quite a bit of low-income housing/scattered site public housing over there. The blocks over there have had problems with shootings through the years. You'll likely be safe, but that immediate area is just not very pleasant.

I've lived in the immediate neighborhood for 6 or so years without a single issue. It gets more stroller/yuppie every year. The closing of the Somerset and numerous large scale flop-house to expensive rental conversions tell the tale. I actually cannot believe what a decent 2 bdrm is going for now.
