I remember when it was on one of Bourdain's episodes. He said "In the Morton Grove neighborhood of Chicago." ha ha ha

The deep dish and stuffed varieties of pizza are relative newcomers to the city. Those of us who've lived here all our lives, the ones of us here for 60+ years ... understand that "Chicago style" pizza is thin crust. Cracker-like crust.

I'm not quite your age, but do agree with you. Back in the day we didn't even refer to it as Chicago style, and the topping choices were about as numerous as the number of tv stations we had to watch. There was nothing complicated about it - we'd go to Mama Luna's and order pizza without debate. The process took all of twenty seconds.

What effort? You make a reservation, place an order, show up, order some Great Lakes bottles, eat, and pay. It can be a nice evening; all it takes is an ounce of commitment. I'm 29 and thus part of the least committed generation in the history of the world, and I've still been able to round up groups of friends to have dinner there.

Or you call ahead, drive 75 minutes one way, and find that the place is closed. Or that there not making any more pizzas that night.

Anything is an effort to get to if you live 75 minutes away from it, and I don't know why you'd go to eat at a place that far away without calling ahead.

I could see that happening there. Tough luck. Fortunately Pequod's is almost as good, sometimes better.
