Other than the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, what classical music ensembles are worth listening to here in Chicago?

I'm not bashing other orchestras, I just don't know since I just moved here.

I think there are still decent suburban symphony orchestras in Elmhurst, Oak Park, and Elgin

Chicago Symphony
Chicago Civic Symphony
Grant Park Symphony
Chicago Sinfonietta

These are the best ones in Chicago. The orchestras that accompany the Lyric Opera and the Joeffrey Ballet are also very good.

Some good links above. A couple of notes:

1. Civic Orchestra is the "training orchestra" for the Chicago Symphony, so the playing is of a very high standard. Last I heard, tickets were free.

2. Grant Park Symphony largely consists of Lyric Opera players on their summer gig. It also attracts players from other excellent orchestras around the country. Standards are consistently high. Again free, and outdoors (though they actually play in Millennium Park now).

3. Ars Viva, which features some moonlighting CSO players, also deserves a mention. They play in Skokie, at the North Shore Center for the Arts.

I was going to say Chicago Sinfonietta, but since I was beaten to it I'll just plug their ball on 5/31.
