Wasn't there an article about how those things are breeding grounds for pestilence?
I guess it was actually NYC ( big surprise, huh?) but somehow I doubt there is crack squad of Chicago inspectors to check on these wretched things --

It was an Andersonville Landmark. I've certainly spent a lot of time in that neighborhood over the years, and am sad to see it go. I hope they do replace it, even if it's a "dummy" water tower with no function.
