They are taking down the water tower in Andersonville.
I'm sad about it. That's like my piece of home since I'm from Sweden.

I think there is a fundraiser to replace it. I will miss it too, I used to look at it from my back porch.

Wasn't there an article about how those things are breeding grounds for pestilence?

I guess it was actually NYC ( big surprise, huh?) but somehow I doubt there is crack squad of Chicago inspectors to check on these wretched things -- Inside City's Water Tanks - Layers of Neglect |NYTimes

Pretty sure in Europe that is a big reason Swedes and other fastidious people have things like TANKLESS water heaters - much more sanitary.

If you miss home get a flag or go hang out with the three Olympic Silver Medalists on the Blackhawks !

It was an Andersonville Landmark. I've certainly spent a lot of time in that neighborhood over the years, and am sad to see it go. I hope they do replace it, even if it's a "dummy" water tower with no function.

The Swedish American Museum is collecting donations to restore the water tower, if any of you are interested.

The groupon campaign is a nice start, but they should really be handing out flyers like this:
