Just curious what are the best apps for accuracy for the cta/pace buses and L and metra, any info I find just seems to be promoting their own apps. There seems to be 250 apps about Chicago transit I just would like to know what are the best.

The mobile version of the CTA's transit sites are actually good.

My favorite transit app for Chicago for Android is TreKing.

I've found that Bus Tracker and Train Tracker are pretty much all I need. Google Maps works well if you aren't familiar with the routes.

What OS are you running? The CTA has a page of apps here, it's far fewer than 250, and about a dozen per OS.

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. I use 'Transit Stop: CTA Tracker (free)' and it does the job when you already know what route you're taking. It displays when the next few buses/trains are coming and it can also show on a map where the bus is currently. If you need to know which bus/train lines you should use to get somewhere quickest, I usually just use google maps.

Is the CTA tracker even that worthwhile? I don't see it being that reliable when I check it. It says a train is coming in 5 miunutes but arrives 1 minute later, etc.

I've never seen it function that way. It's always been very accurate for me. Are you sure you're checking the correct directions?

Yep. It's been quite sporadic for me, but I wonder if it is more or less accurate depending on how close to the end of the line you are. Is it more accurate for stops in the middle of a line or toward then end maybe?

I don't even bother to check it anymore before I leave my place for work. I use the RideChicago app.

I use transit chatter. Google maps is a good choice for someone new to the system or tourist.

I use an app I created - it's free and visual, though only for Android.
