Hi there,

I'll be moving with a toddler to Chicago for a new job in Lincoln Park. Unfortunately, Lincoln Park is a little out of my budget. I found a condo near Hamlin and Fullerton that looks like a great deal but I've been told west of Kimball isn't that great. This is right on the cusp of Logan Square and Hermosa. I've heard good things about Logan Square but not a whole lot regarding Hermosa other than its primarily hispanic working class. Would this be a good location for a young family? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hamlin and Fullerton is nowhere near Lincoln Park. What's your budget and for what kind of housing? It appears as if you have a family and want a safe area.

Fullerton and Hamlin is 10 minutes from my place of work in Lincoln Park. I already know the distance, what I'm looking for is insight into that neighborhood. Thanks

The point is that neighborhood is so-so and as you are new to Chicago, I'm trying to help you realize other areas that may be within your budget that you didn't know about, semi close to where you're working, in case you realize you don't want to live there. There's some gang activity and not the worst place in town, but not the best.

The west part of Logan Square is on the better side of so-so and has been steadily getting better. But that 10-minute commute to your job in Lincoln Park? Probably more like 25 minutes during normal commute hours if you intend to take public transportation. Even if you're driving yourself 10 minutes is pretty optimistic. Still a fairly easy commute by Chicago standards though.
