I was just wondering what people really think of the current Chicago Mayor?

He's terrible. Hopefully he'll get voted out in 2015.

Can't beat somebody with nobody. At this point, one year prior to the election, any viable opponents should already be up and running, raising their profile and raising cash. There's nobody who has done this yet.

Yeah, I know, it's really just a dream. Rahm's buddies will help pay to keep him ensconced as long as he wants to be the mayor.

Agree 100%. Someone with a name and money needs to run. Find someone with these two qualities, and there might be a possibility Rahm would lose. Lord knows how unpopular he is. But if you have several no names running without money, and you hand Rahm an easy win, no matter how much people hate him. I think the two best choices would either be Fioretti or Susanna Mendoza. Mendoza would get the Hispanic vote, and I could see Lakefront voters going for her. Fioretti has already proven he can win the black vote, and again, Lakefront voters (among others), would vote for him just to vote against Rahm. I can't see Mendoza actually running, especially since Clerk is up at the same time as Mayor, so that pretty much leaves Fioretti, if he chooses to go for it. Seeing as he was districted out of his ward, maybe he will.

He's a classic neoliberal, 100% pro-corporate, a cynic and a bully. He is, and will continue be, popular with a certain segment of young urban professionals and with the super-rich, who are his only real constituency.

I find him to be very "meh". Most of the things he's done under his term are hit or miss for me. He's made good strides into making Chicago a more desirable city for yuppies, corporations, and other members of the upper echelon. I like the improvements done with the CTA (The launch was a disaster, but Ventra's the future), the Divvy's are a nice touch, and more businesses seem to be moving here under his watch.

However, CPS is still a POS, and our fiscal situation hasn't improved. Two of the most important things for our city's survival.

If Chicago had been more like Boston or Seattle, where gentrification is even more prevalent than it is here, and if Chicago didn't have such high hurdles to jump over (our finances, schools, crime etc) he would be just fine. However I'm not sure if he's up to the job of running this place. Regardless, as mentioned before, there really is lack of a better choice, if there was a viable candidate, we would have heard of him/her by now. The best we can do is hope he can get his act together and fix things that actually matter to EVERYONE, not just rich lakefront northsiders.

I don't think anybody likes him. Most people can't stand him.

I don't really hear actual reasoning behind most rahm hate, its usually just incoherent 'rahmbo bla bla' crap.

He's not my dream mayor, but given the pile of **** he was inherited by Daley, Rahm's done fine by me.
