A friend of mine just posted on FB that as of February 1st, Chase will require anyone making a cash deposit to present a photo ID. Has anyone heard anything about this? Could other banks be following this trend?

Is this going to dramatically infringe on your money-laundering operations?

Considering you can deposit cash into an ATM, presumably without showing a ID, this claim seems a bit dubious.

Just googled it. Nothing in the news or posted by Chase's website. Only reddit. I'll have to see it before I believe it.

But if it were the case, like Drover said, you can still use ATM.

It'd be dumb though if you needed ID. Chase would make it harder for themselves to get cash from the street into their banks; why would they do that? Very doubtful.

People who deposit cash are not stealing anything and are in no way capable of withdrawing that money, even if it's 2 minutes later.

Default cash control

This is Defiantly is a new policy from Chase bank. Right now chase requires ID for all cash deposits and Starting March 3 you will no longer be able to deposit cash into any account you are not a signer for. Chase claims this is to combat money laundering. If you believe this you are completly ignorant. Chase wants total control of YOUR MONEY and wants to know where every dollar in YOUR account comes from.

For those of you who think the ATM is an Anonymous solution: Your debit card and PIN are identifing you to the bank.

This is step one in moving to a completely cashless Society. A world without cash is the wet dream of banks and government. electronic funds are easily tracked, traced taxed and even deleted. Right now chase is at the top of the banking pryamid and if this policy goes through with little or no reaction from customers you can gaurantee all the other banks will follow Chases lead.

Even if this will not affect you personally... if you value privacy at all you will make a statement and close your chase accounts and take YOUR MONEY some place where every penny will not be under a microscope.
