Trying to find a good place to live that's an easy commute to the city by metro or train but where I can also drive to office when needed in 30mins or less.

I am single in my 20s so hoping to experience as much of Chicago as possible.

Any suggestions?

Live near Lisle and just park your car and hop on the Metra when you need to go Downtown.

Lisle for a 20 yo? Awful advice.

The only way to reliably make it to an office in Lisle in 30 minutes is to live in Lisle or an adjacent suburb.

There are a large number or young people living in parts of Lisle like Four Lakes which is a large apartment / condo complex that includes very active little "sports league" and has several on-site facilities including skiing / snow boarding, and a little clubhouse house bar. Adjacent healthclubs in Woodridge are also extremely popular with people in their 20s as are the many bars and resturants in nearby Naperville -- Four Lakes Recreation

That said if one does want to endure a commute that instead of 20 minutes or so would like be about 5x that in normal conditions and potentially multiple hours in weather snarled tie-ups there are a far greater number of bars inside Chicago. To minimize ones commute it might be wise to stick to areas near the United Center or the Medical Center....

I lived in Lisle for a while when I was in my early 20's and there were lots of people my age there. And in neighboring burbs as well (Naperville, Downers, etc.). I had quite a few friends in the neighborhood. There were always parties every weekend. Granted though this was 10 years ago, and I'm not sure about the current state of things. I made the mistake of getting an apartment right on the tracks. I wouldn't recommend that.

For every corn-fed, Iowa-born, Big 10 attending, young person who moves to Chicago to "reinvent" themselves, there are plenty of young people born and raised in the Chicago suburbs who have no intention of ever moving into the city.

What about the Miamians, San Diegans, Bostonians, Indians, Europeans, New Yorkers, etc young people that live in the City?

There are plenty of young people from all backgrounds living and working in places beyond the hallowed confines of 606xx.

For folks that value a short commute there are good options around Lisle.
