Anyone know an approximate cost for a shoe shine in the loop? Do you give a tip? I see there's a place in Union station. Anywhere else recommended?

There is no Grand Central Station in Chicago anymore, so where are you talking about?

Shine price about six years ago was $3 and I usually tipped $5 which is a bit high, honestly, but I was a regular and they did a great job and I like being known as and treated like a big tipper. Tipping is every bit as obligatory as it is when dining out, if not moreso. For most shine guys in cobbler shops, the set fee goes to the shop they work in, and they only keep the tip.

Price is probably $4 or $5 now, and an appropriate tip would be $2-4, depending on your shoes and how long they spend, etc.

The price of a shoe shine in downtown chicago as of July was $5.00. TIP depends on how satisfied you are with the shine
