I moved to Chicago this summer and for the first time will be spending thanksgiving without my family. So I would like to share this day with with less fortunate people and we could be each others holiday surrogate family. The problem is Im having trouble finding volunteer opportunities. Does anyone know of anywhere I can volunteer on thanksgiving??

It may be too late to find somewhere. But if anything, if you have some extra cash, maybe drive around a bit a try to find a homeless person and offer to take them to dinner or something. There are places that are open.

Maybe try:

Volunteer to serve and entertain guests at one of The ARK’s three Thanksgiving dinners, or to deliver Thanksgiving meals and other groceries to those who are unable to attend. For details, call Bonnie Azose at (773) 973-1000, ext. 283

Same deal this year:

Volunteer to serve and entertain guests at one of The ARK’s three Thanksgiving dinners, or to deliver Thanksgiving meals and other groceries to those who are unable to attend. For details, call Bonnie Azose at (773) 973-1000, ext. 283. (ARK closed for other services.)

There are many ways you can volunteer during the entire holiday season for Little Brothers Chicago:

Try http://www.onebrick.org/calendar.asp (broken link) and http://www.chicagocares.org/

I heard good things about them both.

Note: Most volunteers must be 21 yrs. of age.

For anyone that is looking to volunteer this year-the Lakeview Pantry is looking for volunteers:

"You can help us meet our goals by donating or volunteering. By year’s end we hope to recruit 500 new volunteers, receive 7,500 pounds of healthy foods, and raise $442,000 in donations to help our neighbors in need."

Welcome to the Lakeview Pantry
